This is an unusual problem indeed. We can only guess at the solution. My guess is that there maybe a shield missing. Sometimes these refrigerators have a shield that prevents too much water pouring directly on the element. Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator.

I finally traced the water puddle back to the fridge and it is dripping from the front left side all the way at the end (corner).
